Respiratory panel (SARS-CoV-2, influenza A and B, RSV) – PCR test

Respiratory panel (SARS-CoV-2, influenza A and B, RSV) – PCR test

The test allows for rapid and accurate detection of the most common causes of respiratory infections, namely SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), influenza types A and B, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

By identifying the specific cause of the respiratory illness, targeted therapy can be administered, unnecessary use of antibiotics can be avoided, and the patient’s recovery can be accelerated.

DETAILED INFORMATION

The respiratory panel is a molecular PCR test that detects the genetic material of the four most common viruses causing respiratory illnesses:

  • SARS-CoV-2 – the virus responsible for COVID-19

  • Influenza A – the type A influenza virus

  • Influenza B – the type B influenza virus

  • RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) – a frequent cause of respiratory infections, especially in children and the elderly

The PCR method is highly sensitive and can detect even small amounts of the virus in a sample. The test thus provides a reliable basis for decisions regarding further treatment and isolation measures.

The test is especially recommended:

  • in the presence of respiratory infection symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, etc.),

  • when it is necessary to distinguish the cause of the infection – e.g., influenza, COVID-19, RSV,

  • prior to the administration of antiviral or other specific therapies,

  • for high-risk groups (elderly, chronically ill, children, healthcare workers),

  • to confirm a diagnosis in epidemiologically monitored diseases.

You will receive the result within 2 working days.

After the test has been evaluated, you will receive a detailed and easy-to-understand laboratory report, or a consultation with a clinical geneticist will be recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

The test detects the presence of the four main viruses causing respiratory illnesses: SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), influenza types A and B, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).
The sample is collected by swabbing the throat or nasopharynx using a sterile swab. The collection takes a few seconds and is non-invasive, but it may be slightly uncomfortable.

Yes, the PCR respiratory panel is safe and suitable for all age groups, including children and the elderly.
Identifying the specific virus helps the doctor to administer targeted therapy, decide on isolation, and prevent unnecessary use of antibiotics.
