DETAILED INFORMATION
The respiratory panel is a molecular PCR test that detects the genetic material of the four most common viruses causing respiratory illnesses:
-
SARS-CoV-2 – the virus responsible for COVID-19
-
Influenza A – the type A influenza virus
-
Influenza B – the type B influenza virus
-
RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) – a frequent cause of respiratory infections, especially in children and the elderly
The PCR method is highly sensitive and can detect even small amounts of the virus in a sample. The test thus provides a reliable basis for decisions regarding further treatment and isolation measures.
The test is especially recommended:
-
in the presence of respiratory infection symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, etc.),
-
when it is necessary to distinguish the cause of the infection – e.g., influenza, COVID-19, RSV,
-
prior to the administration of antiviral or other specific therapies,
-
for high-risk groups (elderly, chronically ill, children, healthcare workers),
-
to confirm a diagnosis in epidemiologically monitored diseases.
