Sexually transmitted diseases
Detection of STD agents
Sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs, are infections and diseases transmitted primarily through sexual contact. Risky sexual behaviour, primarily promiscuity and unprotected sex, is responsible for their spread. Moreover, some diseases can occur quite subtly, yet cause serious consequences. Microbiological testing will give you a clear answer as to whether you are (not) a carrier of a sexually transmitted disease. The specific diseases targeted by the STD Komplet and STD Komplet PLUS tests are listed in the detailed information below.
IN WHICH SITUATIONS IT IS APPROPRIATE TO TAKE THE TEST

Detailed information
Sexually transmitted diseases that are transmitted exclusively through sexual intercourse include gonorrhoea, syphilis, soft ulcers, etc. Infections of the urogenital tract, such as yeast, chlamydia, herpes, etc., can be caused by various agents. Some diseases show specific symptoms, but others can be quite subtle, where the infected person may not be aware of the disease and may unknowingly pass it on. The best protection against infection is prevention, either through a long-term monogamous relationship or through protected sexual intercourse and regular preventive check-ups.
It is advisable to take the test 1-3 weeks after the risky contact. As with many other diseases, early diagnosis and subsequent treatment are important for sexually transmitted diseases. Especially for syphilis, gonorrhea and HIV. The sexually transmitted disease test detects the presence of DNA pathogens of selected sexually transmitted disease agents responsible for genital or urological infections, namely: human papillomaviruses to determine whether they are high-risk HPV-HR or low-risk HPV-LR, herpes simplex viruses (HSV) to determine whether they are HSV1 or HSV2, Chlamydia trachomatis which can cause infertility in women if chronic, Treponema pallidum which causes syphilis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae which causes gonorrhoea.
The STD Komplet test includes testing for: Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhoea), Mycoplasma genitalium, Trichomonas vaginalis, Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum. The sample for analysis is obtained by swabbing.
The STD Komplet PLUS test includes testing for: HIV, Treponema palladium (Syphilis), Hepatitis C, HPV (Human papillomavirus), HSV (Herpes simplex virus), Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhoea), Mycoplasma genitalium, Trichomonas vaginalis, Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Ureaplasma parvum. The sample for analysis is obtained by swabbing and blood collection.

HOW THE TEST WORKS AND WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
After ordering the test, you will receive an email with detailed information. Depending on the chosen test, the sample required for analysis can be collected in our outpatient clinic by cervical swab for women (self-collection), urethral swab for men, rectal swab, throat swab and/or blood collection. In the case of an indication to the health insurance company, the sample will be taken by the attending gynaecologist or urologist. The result of the analysis will be communicated to you over the phone and we will discuss how you wish to send the laboratory report. In the event of a positive result, we will arrange a consultation with a doctor who will explain everything to you and recommend appropriate measures.
