DETAILED INFORMATION
Starting September 1, 2025, World Athletics will require all registered female athletes to undergo the SRY test to ensure fair and consistent conditions in women’s categories.
The examination helps to:
-
Exclude genetic variations in female athletes,
-
Clarify hormonal imbalances or atypical development of sexual characteristics,
-
Meet the new requirements of sports institutions.
Gene / specification: SRY gene (presence / absence)
Sample type: blood or buccal swab (oral swab) – a simple and painless procedure.
The test is suitable for female athletes who wish to confirm their genetic profile, as well as for physicians conducting additional hormonal or sports screening.
If needed, we recommend a genetic consultation to explain the results and their significance.
