SRY Test – Genetic Examination for Female Athletes

SRY Test – Genetic Examination for Female Athletes

A genetic test intended for female athletes to determine the absence of the SRY gene, which triggers testosterone production and the development of male sexual characteristics. This gene is normally located only on the Y chromosome, and therefore should not be present in women. However, in rare cases, it may appear — for example, through the transfer of part of the Y chromosome — and may influence hormonal balance, athletic performance, or reproductive health.
