ORÁLNÍ MIKROBIOM

Oral health affects the health of the entire body.

Oral bacteria contribute to tooth decay and gum inflammation, but they can also produce substances that cause bad breath or accumulate in blood vessels and the brain, contributing to lifestyle diseases such as atherosclerosis and Alzheimer's disease.

What makes our examination unique?

IN WHAT SITUATIONS SHOULD YOU TAKE THE TEST?

Bleeding gums

Bleeding gums

Aggressive pro-inflammatory bacteria facilitate the development of gum inflammation, which initially manifests itself as bleeding when brushing teeth or biting into harder foods (e.g., apples). If left untreated, it can lead to periodontitis and tooth loss.

Periodontitis

Periodontitis

The discovery of aggressive "paropathogenic" bacteria will help speed up the treatment of periodontitis, preventing tooth loss and the transfer of bacterial toxins into the bloodstream and distant organs.

Tooth decay

Tooth decay

Are you constantly developing new cavities? Your oral bacteria may be producing excessive amounts of acids that damage tooth enamel, or a resistant biofilm that resists regular tooth brushing.

Oral issues or recurring sores

Oral issues or recurring sores

An overgrowth of pro-inflammatory or pathogenic bacteria irritates the cells of the mucous membrane and causes inflammation. By restoring the balance of your oral microbiota, you will no longer suffer from inflammation.

Halitosis

Halitosis

Are you bothered by bad breath? The cause may be reflux or inflammatory disease in the digestive tract, but it could also be an overgrowth of oral bacteria that produce sulfur compounds that cause odor.

Inflammatory diseases

Inflammatory diseases

Bacteria in the mouth directly affect the oral mucosa. If this is damaged, harmful substances from the external environment or pro-inflammatory substances can enter the body, increasing the risk of chronic inflammation and lifestyle diseases.

DETAILED INFORMATION

DETAILED INFORMATION

The main output of the analysis is an assessment of what bacteria live in your oral cavity and in what proportions, and whether your oral microbiome can be considered sufficiently balanced and diverse or not.

We can use information about the amount of certain bacteria to provide practical advice and recommendations. The composition of the oral microbiota is dynamic and can be influenced by what we consume, dental hygiene, but also by smoking, alcohol, or certain medications (especially antibiotics).

In general, the goal of influencing the oral microbiome is to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria and prevent the overgrowth of bacteria that are known to be harmful to us.

You will receive the results within 4-6 weeks of your sample being delivered to the laboratory.

The presence of bacteria in the oral cavity can tell us a lot: whether acid-producing bacteria predominate, or whether you have enough bacteria to neutralize acid production. Whether aggressive bacteria that cause inflammation and periodontitis have multiplied excessively. Whether your body is protected against the penetration of harmful substances from food or chemicals through the oral mucosa. Whether there is a risk of bacterial toxins entering the bloodstream and the body. Whether you have bacteria that increase the risk of lifestyle diseases, and what to do about it. How to help the body get rid of hostile bacteria and promote the growth of friendly species.
The examination will provide you with specific recommendations on how to eliminate harmful mechanisms – an analysis of your oral microbiome, together with a consultation, will help identify problematic factors. You will also receive advice on how to regularly nourish beneficial bacteria and support their growth with the right diet, supplements, and probiotics. You will learn how the oral microbiome is related to dental hygiene and your lifestyle. All recommendations can be discussed in detail based on the results during a personal consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The oral microbiome is a collection of all microorganisms (more precisely, a collection of genes from all microorganisms) that reside in our oral cavity. Bacteria are the most numerous and most researched, but it also includes viruses, fungi, protozoa, etc., whose number exceeds the number of cells in our own body. The oral microbiome is very diverse and varies significantly between individuals. If we do not expose it to risk factors, these microorganisms live in harmony with our body from birth.
Oral bacteria perform a number of important tasks. These bacteria produce many active substances that affect the environment in the oral cavity. They maintain the health of teeth, gums, and oral mucosa, but also prevent the development of many other systemic diseases. A balanced oral microbiome is able to sufficiently counteract the constant effects of food and other substances from the external environment, nourish the mucosa, and have an anti-inflammatory effect on cells.
An oral microbiome analysis will reveal what is hidden inside your mouth. There is no other way to obtain this information. The presence of beneficial and harmful bacteria in your mouth will essentially reveal whether there are any hidden risk factors that you would not otherwise know about until clinical problems arise. If your oral cavity is home to a "healthy" population of beneficial bacteria, your overall lifestyle is probably in harmony with your body and there are virtually no risk factors affecting you from your oral cavity. However, if your oral microbiome is out of balance, you are at risk of tooth decay or gum and periodontal inflammation, and later also lifestyle diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, or dementia.
From a small sample of your saliva.
After placing your order, you will receive a collection kit by mail containing all the necessary components, including detailed instructions and a collection tube with liquid. Unscrew the cap of the tube. Place the mouthpiece on top of the tube. Lean your head forward slightly and allow saliva to accumulate in the front of your mouth. Then let the saliva flow into the tube up to the 2 ml mark (on the side of the tube). When you have enough saliva in the tube, add the stabilizing medium to the tube. Screw the cap on tightly and shake the contents of the tube thoroughly. Send the signed tube back to the laboratory.
The saliva sample is stable at normal temperatures for several weeks. It does not need to be stored in the refrigerator. After collecting the sample, please send it back to our laboratory as soon as possible.
No. Collect saliva preferably in the morning after waking up. Do not brush your teeth, rinse your mouth, smoke, or chew gum before collection. Do not eat or drink anything.
In children aged around 3 years and older, the intestinal microbiome is already very similar to that of an adult, so the test will provide us with similar information as in adults.
The assessment of the oral microbiome is still the subject of research. Even in healthy individuals, the composition of the microbiome varies greatly, so it is very likely that there is no single correct answer. It also depends on an individual's genetic predisposition, lifestyle, and environment. However, because we know which bacteria affect our bodies, we can use lifestyle assessments to make targeted recommendations to ensure that friendly bacteria predominate in the mouth, keeping teeth, gums, and the body healthy and in good condition.
No! This is not a diagnostic examination. This test is used to identify risk factors that affect the condition of your teeth and oral cavity, as well as your entire body.
You will receive the results within 4-6 weeks after your sample arrives at our laboratory.
